Contrary to what some might say, Bob
was not around to invent barbershop. However, he has been
singing for quite a long time. Bob started singing in grade
school, performing his first solo in a seventh grade production
of the Sound of Music. Throughout High School Bob performed
in musicals and folk groups.
Bob actually got introduced
to barbershop by his barber (of all people), who encouraged
him to attend a Greendale Village Showmen’s rehearsal.
As a sign of things to come,
Bob’s first quartet entered and won a talent |
contest
at of all places, a local bar.
Bob, along with Dave, is
a charter member of the Midwest Vocal Express.
Bob has won several divisional
quartet championships singing either bass or baritone. Quartets
in Bob's barbershop history are; front Page News, On Request,
By Popular Demand, Escapades, and many more he can’t
remember. Another quartet of note was Ovation. This group
included Paul’s Dad (Roger) and brother (Keith). He
can still remember that little snot-nosed kid (Paul) sitting
in corner being a pest during Ovation’s rehearsal.
As an early influence on
young Harris, Bob likes to take credit for Paul’s success.
Fortunately Paul ignored those impressions and has done pretty
well on his own. |
For
nine years until their recent retirement, Bob also sang with
the New Horizon Singers, a popular men’s
singing group specializing in pop music.
Bob married his High School
sweetheart, Pat and together they have three grown children,
and four spoiled grand children.
Many of you Barbershop music
fans will recognize Pat from quartets such as; Silhouettes
in Sound, Charade and most recently Surefire. All were Region
22 Champs with several international top twenty appearances.
Bob is a C.P.A and has been
the Controller for Sterling Inc, a Milwaukee Manufacturer,
for the last fifteen years.
